Montreal is the farthest port inland for many cruises that voyage to Quebec. These cruises start in New York or Boston, then travel north up and around Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick before heading southwest on the St. Lawrence River. Montreal is considered one of the prettiest cities in North America, an excellent spot to end a New England-Canada cruise.

Cruise Ships to Curacao
Many longer Caribbean cruises – 8 days or more – make it as far south as the “ABC Islands” of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. Curacao is the largest of those islands, sitting 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela. Cruises to Curacao make port in the town of Willemstad, which is known for its pastel-colored colonial-style architecture.

Today’s Cruises – September 14, 2013
There are 35 ships setting forth on various cruise-type adventures today…
- the longest cruise starting today is a 29-day marathon on Norwegian Jewel that starts in Seattle and ends in New Orleans – visiting Alaska, Vancouver, San Francisco, LA, Cabo, the Panama Canal and Cartagena – also sailing as a week-long Seattle to Alaska to Vancouver cruise;
- it’s Saturday so that means lots of 7- and 8-day cruises starting, including trips to the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Alaska;
- we’re at the beginning of “leaf peeping” season in North America, so the ms Veendam is starting a 7-day cruise from Quebec City to Boston – and back again, if you can take two weeks off.
Looking ahead: Only five months ’til Valentine’s Day, with 14 cruises scheduled for departure on February 14, 2014. 02/14/2014 is kind of interesting, numerology-wise.
Canada-New England Cruises from New York
New York City is known as a popular cruise departure point for trips to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Caribbean and across the Atlantic, but another group of cruises travel from New York to New England and Canada. These cruises are especially popular as leaves of the coastal forests change colors in autumn.
The shortest of these cruises are quick 4 or 5-day round-trips to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. These are offered by Carnival Cruise Lines and include stops in St. John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. It’s just enough time to get acquainted with those historic towns and to view the Nova Scotia coast.
There are many more cruise line and ship options for 7-night cruises to Canada and New England. Carnival, Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises all expand upon the 5-day itineraries to include stops in Boston and Bar Harbor, Maine. A day in Bar Harbor gives cruisers a chance to do some quick exploration of the beautiful Acadia National Park.
If you can afford to spend more than a week exploring New England and Canada, then you may want to consider one of the 10-day cruises that start in New York and end in Quebec City or Montreal. After visiting Boston, Bar Harbor and Halifax, these cruises continue north, traveling around the north side of Nova Scotia and visiting Prince Edward Island. They then go even farther north, around the Gaspe Peninsula and down the St. Lawrence River to Quebec City or Montreal. These 10-night voyages are offered by some of the luxury cruise lines, including Holland America and Regent Seven Seas.
TheCruiseNexus.com always has the latest schedule of cruises departing from New York City, as well as the Cape Liberty port in nearby New Jersey.
